ImageSarah Ladbury is an independent consultant with 22 years social development experience including work on labour rights.

Work with IFIs on social/labour/human rights: World Bank, Caribbean Development Bank, Commonwealth Development Corporation (developed social policy guidelines for CDC).

Reviews of ILO programmes (recently in Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania); previously in Indonesia, the Philippines, Bangkok.

Long term labour rights projects: Regular visits to Ghana over 6 years (DFID funded) working with the private sector, government, NGOs and trade unions to improve conditions for construction workers on rural roads programmes and to address HIV/AIDS. Directed a documentary video analysing government, private contractor and trade union roles in the Ghana labour standards programme and ran an international workshop on this topic in South Africa in Feb 2002. Work for CDC over one year; field visits to analyse 'difficult' labour issues in prospective investments in Lao PDR, Kenya, Tanzania, Sri Lanka.

Training materials: In 2004 the World Bank incorporated a Labour Standards module I had helped prepare into their Socially and Environmentally Responsible Procurement training.

Past work: with the UK Ethical Trading Initiative; on Corporate Social Responsibility and UK government policy; on private sector responses to difficult community situations - work in the Niger delta analysing community-government-company relations; experienced facilitator of national/international conferences.
