Ruta Banks and IFIs

Strategic advice
We advise on the establishment, development and review of labour and human rights principles and policies appropriate for the institution, the types of transactions undertaken, countries of operation and the expectations of stakeholders. This is based on a detailed understanding of the organisation’s risk profile, its existing systems, unfolding legal and regulatory requirements and by benchmarking best practice developments in the market.

Policy implementation
We assist in translating policy into practical due diligence processes that integrate with and complement existing risk management systems. These can include risk classification protocols, compliance monitoring processes, project appraisal tools, due diligence checklists, performance metrics, reporting processes and formats. We produce documentation and on-line resources to support policy implementation including best practice guides and manuals.

Issue briefings
We provide background briefings and customised research on market and legal developments, regulatory background, sectoral issues and country profiles.

Training and support
We provide in-house training for both bankers and more specialised staff focussed on the practical implementation of policy, together with ongoing support and updates. Our training modules address labour and human rights issues within a broader project risk management framework to deepen practical understanding of both policy and implementation challenges.

Strategic project monitoring
We undertake strategic assessment of investment projects to identify prospective risks or other issues that banking staff can consider as part of due diligence processes.

Complaint arbitration
We undertake independent evaluation of stakeholder complaints on labour and human rights issues arising from projects lodged as part of an institution’s formal or informal procedures. This can lead to findings only or arbitration/mediation dependent on the nature of the complaint and procedure used.

Peer reviewing
We provide confidential pre-publication peer reviews of sustainability reporting or their equivalent to highlight strengths, weaknesses and anticipate stakeholder reaction.
